The Purge
The Psalmist said, “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean oh Lord; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.” Isaiah the prophet said it this way, “Come now let us reason together, saith the Lord; though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

I. Lets explode it!
Recently I saw a promo for a movie called the Purge. The Purge is an American horror franchise, consisting of four films, The Purge (2013), The Purge: Anarchy (2014), The Purge: Election Year (2016) and The First Purge (2018), and now has an upcoming television series, also bearing the name The Purge. It is based on a future dystopia in America;

The Purge series has received a generally mixed critical reception, and has grossed over $420 million in the worldwide box office against a combined budget of $35 million.

I remember thinking to myself, “ I just love how Hollywood borrows from the Bible to distort the words and language of the Holy Book.” Most assuredly, Satan is behind it, absolutely, and it is demonically motivated. We are so desensitized in our culture its normal to watch murder, crime, etc. on television. We have grown to accept the sinfulness of it all haven't we?
I remember thinking to myself, “ I just love how Hollywood borrows from the Bible to distort the words and language of the Holy Book.” Most assuredly, Satan is behind it, absolutely, and it is demonically motivated. Sin affects us all because sin infects us all. Sin is actually worse than cancer…how? Cancer effects hundreds of thousands…sin effects us all [].Isaiah said, all we like sheep have gone astray []. Cancer may cause death…sin causes eternal separation from God.

Today I would to continue our conversation on the question, “I’m saved so now what? ”There are many things we Christ followers should be doing daily. Without a doubt purging your soul of sin is most critical.

How should we live everyday after salvation? How should we proclaim the gospel message, What are the essential truths of the gospel message we are not getting or giving to the world around us? What does it mean to be saved? How can a person know his or her faith is real? Can we have absolute assurance of our salvation? What kind of transformation is accomplished in my new birth? How do we explain the Christian life? How far in sinning can a Christian go before God steps in? What relationship is there between faith and obedience? I believe that one or more of those questions affect every area of the Christian life.
Do you want me to tell you what is wrong with the average Christian? He's disobedient. Do you want me to tell you what is wrong with the average church? It is filled with disobedient people. Do you want me to tell you why people are not happy in their faith, they're saved but... they are enduring it rather than enjoying it. The problem infecting and causing it all sin.
Its simply not living the obedient life.
The old hymn Trust and Obey is accurate… Trust and Obey, for there’s no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey. Well we have the first part down don’t we? We trust…. But boy do we struggle with obey.
I’m Saved…Now What?
1. Practice righteousness!
Regeneration is the work of the Holy Spirit. “Regeneration is the Biblical Purge!” Daily we must purge our souls from sin.
2. Develop your relationship with Jesus through intimate prayer and bible study.
3. Surround yourself with Godly friends as much as you can.

In all passages except four, the Revised Version (British and American) more properly translates "cleanse" ( , ; ). In "when he had by himself purged our sins" is changed to "had made purification of." Most worthy of note is the change of the familiar verse in John, "Every branch, that beareth fruit, he purgeth" to "Every branch.... he cleanseth" (15:2).
In all passages except four, the Revised Version (British and American) more properly translates "cleanse" ( , ; ). In "when he had by himself purged our sins" is changed to "had made purification of." Therefore, The Purge is the regeneration of your life and in Gods House.

Regeneration: obscure in the Old Testament, but in the new it becomes definite. It is the imparting of the divine nature in all that are made brand new in Christ.

Peter states it this way….()

What happens at regeneration?
Is the believer truly born-again? ,; ,.
Is our old self dead? Crucified with Christ?
That we are no longer slaves to sin… Christ breaks the power of sin over you…you have a choice now, and power to enforce your choice against sin and satan.
[] “6 We know that our old self [a] was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.”
What are you still a slave to friend? Are believers really partakers of Gods divine nature according to II Pete 1:4]; Is it true that, “if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; that old things are passed away, behold all things become new? -.
Can we say really, “Having been freed from sin, [we are] now slaves of righteousness []?
Lordship salvation says yes! Jesus cannot be your savior unless He is your Lord. If Jesus is your Lord then the word “no” doesn’t exist when Christ asks us to obey his commandments. It’s the remaining sin in us all that we wrestle with.
This after all is the whole point of redemption: “Whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son” [].
Does that conforming work of God work of God-sanctification-regeneration-begin in this lifetime? Again, Lordship salvation says yes.
Scripture agrees. “We all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image [ image of Christ] from glory to glory.. []
Though it has not appeared as yet what we shall be, it is nevertheless certain that when He appears [Christ], we shall be like Him…and everyone who has this hope fixed on him purifies [purges] himself, just as he is pure [
Theres more: “Who he predestined, these also he called; and whom He called justified, these he also glorified” []
Notice Gods part begins in election and ends in glory! In between that time everything, every aspect of the redemptive, regeration , purge process is gods work, not the sinners. God will neither terminate the process nor omit any aspect of it!
is clear: Salvation- all of it—is not on the basis of deeds done by us--- It is Gods work, completed on the cross, through the death of Christ, according to his mercy and grace.
Its not merely a declaratory transaction, legally securing a place in heaven but leaving the sinner captive to sin….heavens no!
It involves a transformation of the disposition, the very nature, through the “Washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit’ as well.
IV. Lets execute it!
The Holy Spirit purge produces a changed life!
1. Check your faith: Real faith involves a change of the whole nature of ma, it involves a new hatred of sin, a new hunger and thirst after Christ and his righteousness. This is not the work of man but of Gods Holy Spirit. Faith is supernatural confidence and reliance in the one who made the promise…God. God is faithful you might not be listening, or simply rejecting, grieving, and quenching the work of the holy Spirit in you.
2. Check with your family: Do you think I’m growing? Visit your pastor for a check up? A Christian friend you trust to tell you the truth about you. People of faith are prepared to live out their faith. The beginning of faith is simply believing that God is. Faith is seeking after God, desiring to knoe him deeper, to obey his every wish and command out of love not duty.
3. Faith obeys, it walks with God, obeys God, worships God, overcomes obstacles, faith endures, it perseveres the stroms of life, the seasons of difficulties, believes when it does not see clearly.
Charles Spurgeon preached once:
Think, beloved, each one of you who are Christ’s, how much you may have backslidden of late. Have you not become lax in prayer? You maintain the habit of it, and you could not give that up, but you have not that power in prayer you once had; you still read the word, but maybe the Scripture is not as sweet to you as it was before; you come now to the Lord today; you have not learned to forsake the assembling of yourselves together there, but oh, the face of the King in His beauty! Have you seen that as you once did? Perhaps you are still doing a little for His cause, but are you doing what you once did or all you might do? Instead of going on unto perfection, is not your growth stunted?Must you not confess that you are not a runner towards heaven as much as a loiterer in the road there? Do these accusations evoke no confessions? I fear the most of us, if we came to search, would have to say, “I do remember when the love of my espousals was upon me, and my heart was warm with love to Christ; but now, alas, how slow are my passions in moving towards Him! O that I could feel once again the glow of my first love, and that my spirit did rejoice in Him as on the day of my conversion.” I ask you, brothers and sisters, if you have to make such acknowledgments, whether you would have believed such things of yourselves when you first came to Christ? If a prophet had told me that I should be so ungrateful to the dear lover of my soul, I would have said, “Is your servant a dog, that he should do this thing?” Bought with His precious blood, and delivered from going down to the pit of hell in those younger days of our attachment, we thought we should evermore cleave closer and closer to our Deliverer; no sacrifice appeared too great, no duty too irksome, if Jesus did but command it. Yes, we have sorrowfully failed in many respects, and have need to with deepest sorrow of heart, confess our backsliding, and bemoan ourselves before God!
The question is not whether we are saved by grace, we are, but more so about how grace operates in salvation. True grace is more than just a giant “freebie”, opening the door to heaven in the sweet by and bye, but leaving us to waller in our sin in the bitter here and now…[John MacArthur].
Grace that does not affect ones behavior is not the grace of God!
The gospel is a call to repentance…It demands that sinners make a change!
Stop going one way--- turn around and go in another direction---- toward Jesus Christ!
All men must repent before God…confess their sins.. To be born again first…and then to purge from sin.
Allow the Lord to purge your heart and soul of sin today. Repent and return to your first love!
Do it today while there is time!
